Cherry is an unrelenting, nerve wracking over-the-top War Drama that in which Star Tom Holland(Spider-Man:Homecoming, Avengers: Endgame) gives a performance of a lifetime as Nico Walker, I don’t think there’s anyway Tom will ever top this performance. Though he is still very young in his career this is how exceptional this performance is.
The Russo brothers also are top notch with their visual and unflinching look at a story that some may say is reminiscent of Dead Presidents, which to an extent is right on. However, I believe Cherry has a little bit more depth to its acting depth, not necessarily its narrative story telling which is a bit uneven at times.
It could have been the next Full Metal Jacket if it wasn’t too Over-The-Top and had more clarity in what it was trying to accomplish. If you wanted a similar movie other than Dead Presidents, I would also say it’s similar to Tigerland. If that sounds like something you’d be interested in then I highly recommend Cherry for you. Just know it’s not going to be the feel-good movie of the year.
