Boogie is one of the best basketball movies since the 1990’s. Featuring an all star cast giving all star performances and a unique story that’s a slam dunk with audiences. I myself am not personally a basketball fan, but I found this movie really compelling due to its social commentary.

With the Asian community and heritage involved it put a unique enough spin on sport movies that felt new and fresh. Taylor Takahashi gives a breakout performance that should be award worthy in the independent film spirit awards when those are announced next year.

Domenico “Domenick” Lombardozzi also delivers one of his best performances as the hard headed coach of Boogie, though he is still type casted here. He does feature a little bit more emotional range than usual.

Aside from the acting and storytelling which is great in Boogie. The soundtrack is also a standout featuring music when Hip-Hop was legendary and will put a nostalgic smile on a lot of fans faces throughout the film.

Overall grade: 3.5/5 stars
