Oscar Isaac would be part of the Oscar nomination for Best Actor if The Letter Room was a full feature length movie, unfortunately it’s not. However, he still gives a really fine performance and I personally have been following his career since the phenomenal Ex Machina. This is no exception he really delivers no matter what the situation is(we can forget Sucker Punch).
The pacing of The Letter Room is fantastic I’ve seen a lot of 15 minute short films that felt like 40, while The Letter Room running at about 30 minutes feels like a swift 10 minutes. The supporting actors are fantastic as well including a stellar John Douglas Thompson who holds his own with Oscar and a sobering performance from Brian Pestos and Alia Shawkat who has grown up to be a terrific actress. I want to scream when will people start taking her serious as a dramatic talent after Blaze, Search Party and her scene in The Letter Room.
If you find yourself looking for an important topic to watch and want to kill 30 minutes before work or before you have anything to do. The Letter Room is the short film for you to watch as it powerful and one of the better non genre short films of 2020.
