We were lucky enough to sit in on a roundtable interview with the legendary tv host at Turner Classic Movies Ben Mankiewicz to discuss the all time classic film ‘Citizen Kane’.

There was plenty of talk of the personnel landscape of the film industry and if it could be made today for today’s audience and with today’s 24/7 news industry. Ben Mankiewicz was a champion in this roundtable. I wish I could have asked him more questions like what he thinks of awful movies using the tag line “The Citizen Kane of bad movies”.

However, my question to Ben Mankiewicz was if he was surprised with everything getting remade, rebooted and reimagined for today’s audience with all these IP titles for today’s audience that Citizen Kane hasn’t been listed on those titles.

He replied with a simple no, no one is going to remake or touch Citizen Kane. It’s such a tough task and while he was saying this I was reminded of Gus Van Sant’s Psycho and Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake and I totally get his response.

Nick Davis, Ben’s cousin has a new book coming out titled ‘Competing with Idiots’

There is one more Fathom Events Screening of Citizen Kane Wednesday night.
