Taylor Sheridan has crafted another home run series with the tense and gritty Mayor of Kingstown starring the great Jeremy Renner(The Marvel Cinematic Universe) also reuniting the duo who did underrated work on the marvelous Wind River. Taylor knows how to get the best from the actors around him, with Hell or High Water, Sicario 1&2 and Mayor of Kingstown is no different. Taylor is also a mastermind at creating the tension in front of the camera as this could be compared to the opening of Sicario. Taylor can write the hell out of a screenplay and it shows here again.

Kyle Chandler is a nice addition the the cast here, as I must say, don’t get too attached to any of the cast here, it’s gut wrenching at times. Diane Weist is a knockout as the McLusky’s mom being the hard nosed mom who doesn’t like her children being mentioned around her, especially the Mayor. While Mayor of Kingstown gets off to a fast and hot start, it should be noted that it won’t be exactly game changing tv like True Detective or Twin Peaks was when they first aired

Mayor of Kingstown could be a mainstream hit and won’t need a cult following to bring it to life, it’s very accessible to its audience and not cerebral to a fault to its main stars. However, Mayor of Kingstown had a very solid grand opening with the first two episodes and I am excited to see where it takes us.

Overall grade: 3.5/5 stars
