What We Leave Behind, is an engaging documentary about Iliana Sosa taking the audience on an intimate journey about her grandfather and a growing bond between granddaughter and grandfather. The cinematography and photography stands out in the documentary in a breathtaking landscape of scenery.
Also we get get hitched on this emotional journey from the get go and it never lets up, as it gets more and more enthralling with each story the grandfather or his close confidants tells in What We Leave Behind. This documentary won’t be for everyone as nowadays it seems like it’s True Crime or nothing.
However, Iliana Sosa does this documentary with such grace, I would not be surprised if this would be a breakout hit from this year’s SXSW which already has a couple of great docs including one about Mojo Nixon and the Anonymous Club. What We Leave Behind should be a great home for a streaming service down the line, if you’re in for an intimate emotional journey then this is the documentary for you.
