Summer 2022 is the perfect time to return to the danger zone. Top Gun: Maverick just released this weekend, and it is PHENOMENAL! This may be Tom Cruise’s best sequel in his career, yes even including the masterfully entertaining Mission Impossible sequels. Joseph Kosinski proves here he can finally make a solid film without it being uneven like ‘Oblivion’ and ‘Tron: Legacy’ it’s a spectacle that demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible with Dolby Atmos sound.

Tom Cruise takes a huge risk coming back to his cult hit movie ‘Top Gun’ we wondered as audiences if this was thirty years too late to the party like Independence Day: Resurgence. It proves to be a delayed sequel that works and will blow the summer moviegoers away as Jurrasic World did. Another question we had, was who was going to be the young cast members. Luckily they were led by Miles Teller(Whiplash & Too Old To Die Young) and Glen Powell(Hidden Figures & Everybody Wants Some!). Miles Teller gives an award-worthy performance as Rooster(Goose’s son) while Glen’s character Hangman plays a likable cocky pilot that is reminiscent of Tom Cruise’s Maverick in the original.

The flight scenes are some of the most adrenaline rush-worthy moments of a lifetime that will remind you of when you first saw your first lightsaber fight. It’s that special on the big screen, hopefully, you do this movie service by checking it out on an IMAX, Dolby Cinema, or a 4DX screen this summer. It also works as a father-son bonding movie as Tom and Miles’s relationship acts as a father figure that will do anything to make sure Rooster is ready to go.

Overall, I was blown away by how much Top Gun: Maverick worked. The soundtrack is also just as iconic this time with the emotional song done by Lady Gaga, you will be cheering and clapping through the 2 hours of the film.

Overall Grade: 5/5 Stars
