Synopsis: Bella Cherry arrives in Los Angeles with dreams of becoming an adult film star, but she soon learns that fame won’t come easy as she harnesses her ambition and cunning to rise to the top of this mesmerizing and singular world.
Pleasure is a game-changer of the film industry’s outlook on how someone breaks in through the porn industry. While I thought Pleasure would be stomach-turning and vomit-inducing from the festival runs it had in the past years, it was much tamer on the shock value in my opinion. Although the film could get different reactions from audience members, to me it’s akin to The Neon Demon.

Pleasure also features one of the year’s best performances from Sofia Kappel who deserves a damn Golden Globe nomination for her performance as the porn star trying to break though to eventually become the next Sasha Grey, Bree Olson, or Vicky Vette. It’s a tall task but she’s gotta do what to do to push through. This also has shades of almost a dark prequel to The Girl Next Door.
This is one of my favorite films of the year, and for those who can stomach it will probably feel the same. A great double billing would be Pleasure and The Neon Demon. Pleasure also has a killer score like The Neon Demon did.
Overall Grade: 4/5 stars
