The Forgiven is one of the best movies of the year featuring a dominating performance from Ralph Fiennes(Harry Potter franchise) he should get a lot of award buzz for how he embodies his character in this movie. I would also recommend this movie to fans of Ridley Scott’s The Counselor, which was a confusing movie where you never knew what exactly was going on but you couldn’t move or look away.
Movies based on books can be a tricky thing to navigate, with fans’ expectations from the book, and how close the movie should or will end up being for the people interested in the fact-checking of plot point differences which happens all the time, especially in the comic book die-hard crowd. I never read The Forgiven before so I’m glad I went in blindly as possible. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride.
The supporting cast is also phenomenal, including an eccentric Caleb Landry Jones, and a terrific Christopher Abbott, who has great chemistry with A-Lister Jessica Chastain who chews up the scenery here in The Forgiven that pure joyful to watch her have this much fun in a role.
