Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul. Is the first Oscar-worthy performances for both Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown, the trailer makes it look like it’s tailor made for the crowd of The Righteous Gemstones lovers. There is much more than meets the eye that the crew cut together for Universal to market this film. It has a much deeper storyline then I expected and I am all here for it.
I am one of those people that are Christian but think big outlandish churches are all stereotypical rather it be like Tammy Faye or the previous mentioned The Righteous Gemstones. Sterling K. Brown’s church is no different here and I am glad Jordan Peele and company didn’t shy away from controversies that come with this. We know straight from the trailer that this will be the biggest comeback story ever, we just needed to figure out from what.
It’s a touchy subject matter for sure and some may not know how to take it. The way director Adamma Ebo keeps the pacing is extraordinary once we find out the story behind what brings us from the previous downfall of Sterling K. Brown’s character. Adamma Ebo writing is also Golden Globe worthy for best original screenplay. The real surprise is how great Regina Hall has been this year with Master and now Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul. This is a nice new chapter in her career.
