Clerks 3 is Kevin Smith’s latest venture into the Quick Stop universe with the forever lovable Dante Hicks and Randal Graves. We’ve grown up with these characters since Clerks, which has spanned almost my whole life if that puts it in perspective, for you. Now we’re at the pinnacle of the two workers. We see what has happened to these two since Clerks 2 but luckily the movie doesn’t focus on that too heavily and allows Clerks 3 to be its own thing.
The thing that will be the most crowd-pleasing for most Kevin Smith diehards is the homage to the whole filming process of the original Clerks is referenced throughout the film, including Jay, telling Randal what is this in the script? I don’t talk like this! Kevin Smith has brought up on limitless episodes of his podcast and tours. There are beautiful cameos, especially Marilyn Ghigliotti’s return as Veronica in the sweetest moment of the entire film. Also, we get Ben Affleck and Scott Schiaffio back!
The film may not win over newbies to the Kevin Smith universe but it’s a win-win for us that have been following Dante and Randal since the original Clerks first came out. And yes, Silent Bob does speak in the film and when he does, pay ATTENTION! Brian O’ Halloran is also the best he’s ever been.
