The Return of Tanya Tucker Tucker- Featuring Brandi Carlile is an absolute Oscar Nomination lock for best documentary. It’s almost as entertaining as the country music history podcast Cocaine and Rhinestones hosted by Thomas Mahen Coe, which I recommend if you’re a fan of this documentary.
It’s also nice to see my guy Shooter Jennings in this documentary, helping producing the album and songs. For those who don’t know Shooter has become quite the prolific producer, working with Yelawolf on Sometimes Y, and the Marilyn Manson album that is all but forgotten about due to allegations.
Now back to the legendary Tanya Tucker, this is such a well done documentary that brings you an in-depth look at the recording process and how much stress, anxiety, and panic attacks can go into your passion. Which is relatable for us to witness, especially since I myself deal with anxiety and depression. This will be a great documentary for everyone, not just Country Music fans or fans of Tanya Tucker and Brandi Carlile.
Tanya Tucker is such a force on the screen it wouldn’t be surprising if this was a movie instead of a documentary, she would be gaining major Oscar buzz for Best Actress, and the lovable star struck Brandi Carlile is easy to root for in this, and Shooter Jennings adds the seasoned vet to hang with Tanya Tucker in the recording process, and it’s priceless to hear her call Shooter “My little Waylon” it’s worth seeing on the big screen for the best sound system when it comes to the music.
Overall Grade: 5/5 Stars
