I want you back is a cute, perfect Valentines Day style movie to watch with your loved one and family, it has the right amount of heart to drive all home in the end.
With a terrific cast featuring Charlie Day and Scott Eastwood(in a redeeming role), every couple is cute and playful in this movie that is sure to be a streaming hit for Amazon Prime Video when it is released. It’s one hell of a funny movie too which is hard to do with a romantic movie without it being eye roll worthy, however, the writers of I want you back does a good job balancing the charm and wit of the film.
I remember going to an empty cinema with a good buddy of mine when Going the Distance first came out and Charlie Day was a background player in a romantic comedy, now he is the main character and he absolutely crushes it. Jenny Slate is also a knockout, you cannot find her in a bad movie, whenever she is on screen, she delivers. There is also a knockout cameo from Pete Davidson in the movie in what is easily the raunchiest and funny scene of the whole movie, then it turns around to being the most enduring scene of the movie, it’s a marvel how this movie can continuously flip the switch on its head.
In the end however, I do feel like they could have shaved off a good twenty minutes off of the movie as it does drag a little bit in the third act, when they do the whole will they or won’t they scenario in the last half hour of the movie, and we all know how it will end, it’s not game changing in the genre, but it is rather enjoyable to stream at home. Make it the perfect date night.
